Electric Mini now available to order

Mini brand retailers are now accepting deposits for the first production all-electric Mini, writes Brian Byrne.

Deliveries will be from March of next year for the car, which retails from €27,765 OTR. The price includes SEAI grant and VRT rebate.

The 185hp electric motor gives a 7.3s sprint to 100km/h. The range in WLTP regime is claimed at 235-270 kms. Charging at a 50KW point will provide 80pc of capacity in 35 minutes.

There will be three trim levels. A standard feature is a new digital dashboard.

While the first of a range of electric cars from Mercedes-Benz is now available to order in Ireland, buyers will in reality have to wait until 2020 for delivery, writes Brian Byrne . Review by Brian Byrne: Audi A1

I haven’t had a chance to review the current Volkswagen Polo, even though it has been around for some considerable time, but I understand from colleagues that it’s a decent small car, writes Brian Byrne . I have driven its SEAT cousin Ibiza, which I did like much. So I was interested to see how the upmarket relative, the newest Audi A1 Sportback, would match up. Straight up it impressed. I liked it enough to feel some regret leaving it back early because of my very full schedule. Audi’s division of the Volkswagen Group does well in upping both style details and the interiors of its range. Though sharing platforms and powertrains, Audis don’t feel like Volkswagens — a testament to the achievement in becoming a recognised premium brand. That’s more easily done with larger models in the portfolio, tougher to do in the smaller ones and also to get the right premium and value mix. Peugeot powers Landsdowne Football Club for coming season

Landsdowne Rugby Football Club in Dublin has been given the use of a Peugeot 5008 7-seat SUV and a Peugeot Partner van, as part of a partnership agreement with Sandyford Motor Centre , writes Brian Byrne . The Club was founded in 1872 by Henry Dunlop, and has won the Leinster Senior Cup a record 24 times. In 2017/2018, captained by Ian Prendiville and coached by Mike Ruddock and Mark McHugh, Lansdowne won the All Ireland League, the Bateman Cup, the Leinster Senior Cup and the Leinster Senior League Cup. It is the first-ever Leinster team to win all of these trophies in one season.
