Enhancements for Skoda's SUVs

Skoda is is adding some subtle enhancements to its Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs for 2020 model year, writes Brian Byrne.

Technically they include a Side Assist that warns of vehicles in the 'blind spot', from as far back as 70 metres.

The visual tweaks include Skoda lettering on the tailgate.

Meanwhile, I'll be getting to drive the upcoming Kamiq compact SUV, the latest crossover in the Skoda range, in Alsace next month. It's a smart looker, should go as well as it presents.

Landsdowne Rugby Football Club in Dublin has been given the use of a Peugeot 5008 7-seat SUV and a Peugeot Partner van, as part of a partnership agreement with Sandyford Motor Centre , writes Brian Byrne . The Club was founded in 1872 by Henry Dunlop, and has won the Leinster Senior Cup a record 24 times. In 2017/2018, captained by Ian Prendiville and coached by Mike Ruddock and Mark McHugh, Lansdowne won the All Ireland League, the Bateman Cup, the Leinster Senior Cup and the Leinster Senior League Cup. It is the first-ever Leinster team to win all of these trophies in one season. Subaru Ireland have launched their all-new Forester e-BOXER, with prices starting at €45,545, writes Trish Whelan . The Forester e-BOXER features custom-built horizontally-opposed powertrains combining motor-assist with two of Subaru’s core technologies: Boxer engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive as standard, and an improved X-Mode system. Mercedes-Benz and Bosch in California automated driving trials

Mercedes-Benz is starting a pilot automated car ride-hailing project in San Jose, California, to progress the development of self-driving cars, writes Brian Byrne . The vehicles will be S-Class cars equipped with Bosch and M-B systems that help with self-driving. Selected people in the city will get an app which allows them to engage the service, which will shuttle between the west side of the city and its downtown area on two key streets. Though the cars will drive themselves, there will be a 'safety driver' aboard to monitor things and take over if there's an emergency situation. The city of San Jose in 2017 became the first metro area to invite private companies to carry out field tests of automated driving.
